Lynn
Geesaman Lynn Geesaman's many journeys across the
Atlantic and to lesser-known destinations on this continent have produced
an array of images that enchant, surprise and transport us to places
that weave reality and fantasy. Geesaman's foundation as a black and
white photographer has nurtured a special relationship with her world
of color. In a number of her color photographs there is an obvious reference
to a patented composition and aesthetic synonymous with her work in black
and white. However, there are others that suggest a purely chromatic
experience. The use of color has broadened the range of Lynn Geesaman's
photography.
Lynn Geesaman has exhibited widely in museums and galleries throughout
the U.S. and Europe including BibliothÈque Nationale de France,
Paris, The American Cultural Center, Brussels, The Minneapolis Institute
of Arts, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, Yancey Richardson Gallery,
New York City and Catherine Edelman gallery, Chicago. She is also the
recipient of numerous grants and awards such as the Bush Foundation Artist
Fellowship, the Jerome Foundations Visual Arts Travel and study Grant
and a Bernheim Artist Fellowship. Also, Geesaman has two feature publications, "Poetics
of Place," a hardbound publication featuring 52 of her black and
white images with an introduction by renowned writer Jamaica Kincaid
and newly released "Gardenscapes," a hardbound publication
by Aperture with 71 images of her color work, including essays and an
interview by nature writer Verlyn Klinkenborg.
