Landescape
March 7th - April 11th

We are excited to announce our next exhibition, entitled Landescape. Five invited artists (Richard Barlow, Nick Conbere, Gary Hallman, Ken Moylan and Joe Sinness) project solitude, fantasy and a respite from the omnipresent challenges in today's real world. Landescape will be on view from March 7th - April 11th, with a preview reception open to the public scheduled for Friday, March 6th, from 6-9 pm.

Richard Barlow is engaged in a series of square-format pieces that appropriate landscape elements from LP album covers. Devoid of the original color and featured musicians, these popular and not-so-popular backdrops rendered in metallic leaf on vellum reflect an antithetical formal sobriety.

Nick Conbere has recently been producing large-scale drawings and prints that are complex linear illustrations of architectural forms in various stages of completion, amidst undulating topography. These dense compositions seem to suggest utopian societies being settled in enchanted peaceful environs.

Gary Hallman has been developing a portfolio of large inkjet images, entitled Tapestry, that was first inspired by a visit to Tehran's National Carpet Museum in 2001. The concept became physical reality in 2006. Masterfully composed, these exquisite amalgams of photographic subject matter resonate chromatic splendor and concealed glimpses of nirvana.

Ken Moylan has created two new drawings specifically for this exhibition. These works are about actual sites and landmarks within the borders of the troubled Middle East. They are of great beauty and detail, but not without an underlying commentary on the political and cultural upheaval that defines the region.

Joe Sinness combines logical places with fantastic, illogical accouterments in his recent color pencil drawings. These quasi-autobiographical images suggest memorable moments that are theatrically charged not only to reflect, but to dream.
