Cherith Lundin Terra Cognita
October 25 - November 29
Terra Cognita is a body of work that actually contains three sub-series (Supports and Grounds, Swarm and Sway, and Time Between Spaces) within one. Collectively, these series scrutinize the living spaces and environment the artist and her family inhabit physically and psychologically. Starting with photographic images of isolated spaces within Lundin's home and studio, these works are painted on, further personalizing the visual experience of everyday life in her immediate surroundings.
"On old maps, unknown or unexplored areas were left white. In this work, I put the white space back in. It is a subtractive return to the blank page as well as an addition of matter and consideration - a questioning of the known and unknown."
Cherith Lundin received her Masters of Fine Arts in visual studies from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2000. She has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the U.S. including the Fitchburg Art Museum in Fitchburg, MA, the Minnesota Museum of American Art and currently at Wheaton College in Illinois. She also received a Jerome Foundation Fellowship for Emerging Artists in 2006.
