Tiit Raid

Tiit Raid lives on the banks of Fall Creek near Eau Claire, Wisconsin. A pond that is part of the creek and poised at the top of a spectacular waterfall is right outside his back door. Kayaking on the pond has become a daily obsession as well as a resource for an ongoing series of paintings. These vivid, beautifully painted and crafted objects reveal a unique perspective on this specific point of interest. Even though the artist's style and technique remain consistent, the range of images is broad reaching. Several pieces are close-up reflections of the riverbank suggesting an abstract emphasis, while others are more panoramic with identifiable imagery. Regardless of the subject matter, all of these paintings are a testimony to the imagination and skills of an artist who had to look no further than his own back yard for a world of ideas and inspiration.

Tiit Raid was born in Tartu, Estonia and now lives in Fall Creek, Wisconsin. He has a Master of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Minnesota. He taught art at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire from 1967 - 2002. He has exhibited widely throughout the Midwest.
